EXP Melco / Bernina Expanded Stitch

EXP is the format Melco and Bernina users expect — DST will load but loses the higher-precision stitch coordinates EXP preserves.

ORIGIN

Melco EMC / EMT industrial heads, and most modern Bernina embroidery machines that can read the format through the BERNINA EmbroideryMotif file.

MACHINES THAT READ EXP
  • Melco EMT-16 / EMT-16X
  • Bernina 590 / 770 QE / 880
  • Older Amaya / Amaya XT
HOW VALIDSTITCH HANDLES EXP

ValidStitch parses EXP stitch records (including the long-form jumps Melco emits) and recovers any companion .INF color file when uploaded alongside.

COMMON GOTCHAS
  • EXP has no embedded color palette — pair it with a .INF or a print-out for the operator.
  • Long jumps in EXP files emitted by older Wilcom builds may be misinterpreted by Bernina machines.
  • Bernina expects companion .BMP thumbnails — without them the design shows as a placeholder on the LCD.
