SATIN STITCH
A zigzag-like stitch where threads run side by side across a narrow shape, giving it a smooth solid look.
Embroidery vocabularyPlain-English definition
WHAT IT MEANS
Satin stitch is the standard fill for letters and narrow design elements. The machine stitches back-and-forth across the column, packing threads next to each other so the result reads as a single ribbon. Satin works well in columns between roughly 1 mm and 8 mm wide; outside that range, density errors and thread breaks become common.
WHEN IT MATTERS
Letters and outlines stand or fall on satin quality. Too narrow and the needle perforates the fabric; too wide and the satin loses tension and snags during wear.
